Scatwell House lies in perfect tranquility and seclusion about 6 miles west of the hamlet of Marybank in the heart of Strathconon, considered by many to be one of Scotland’s most beautiful glens. Though 17 miles long, the glen is not a through road so there is only light local traffic and, as a result, remains a tranquil, protected and very secure location. The surrounding countryside is renowned for its striking scenery, ranging from the dramatic mountains, streams and lochs of the Highlands to the ancient native woodlands. Indeed, many fine examples of ancient trees can be found in Scatwell gardens.
There has been a dwelling at Scatwell since the 1600s on a site once occupied by the Picts and vikings. Scatwell was originally the seat of the Mackenzies of Scatwell who enlarged the house to create a shooting lodge in the mid 1800s. Since the late 1800s, Scatwell has had several owners, many of whom were instrumental in creating the beautiful gardens and grounds that can be seen today.
All rooms are superbly finished with tasteful antiques, wonderfully comfortable beds and soft towels for use in the en-suite bath/shower rooms.
