Shankend accommodates up to six guests and is located within the beautiful Scottish borders region. Located seven miles south of Hawick, Shankend provides a perfect place to relax and unwind amongst picturesque countryside.
This very comfortable three bedroom holiday cottage is in fact the north wing of a magnificent Edwardian Former Hunting Lodge which is set amongst one hundred acres of grounds. It has been carefully renovated in a delightful country style and is equipped with double glazing, central heating and a cosy woodburning stove - making it equally as enjoyable in the winter months as the summer.
There are plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy in this area including walking, fishing, golf, horse riding and cycling (both on and off road) where the wonderful countryside can be enjoyed at its seasonal best with wildlife in abundance.
Not only is the area full of activities to enjoy and heritage, but it also acts as a great base from which to explore the nearby towns and villages which offer a wide range of good quality cafes, pubs and restaurants.
For those who want to travel a little further afield, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Carlisle and the Northumbrian coast are all within easy reach.
With its own enclosed garden, the Shankend cottage sits in front of the stunning Shankend Viaduct - a magnificent fifteen arched bridge on the disused Waverley Line. It looks out over rolling fields where sheep graze and over the "burn" winding its way through the ancient valley.
The nearby towns of Hawick, Melrose, Jedburgh and Kelso boast a choice of specialist shops and famous knitwear firms where you will find the softest cashmere, finest tweed and the cosiest woollens. There are also award winning parks, abbeys, historic castles and stately homes to visit.
Golfers are spoilt for choice with over twenty courses to choose from around the Scottish Borders, and there is excellent salmon and trout fishing on the nearby rivers and lochs.
Pets are welcome to come and enjoy the fantastic countryside with you and the owners have stables and paddocks should you wish to bring your own horse. There are great paths and tracks which are ideal for walking or riding starting right from the doorstep and the mountain biking is excellent with Seven Stanes less than a twenty minute drive away with its world class trails..
