Purpose built to the highest modern standards, this new holiday home is conveniently situated in the village of St. Marys which is easy to get to and the perfect base from which to explore the islands.
Skeir a Lidda (meaning the flat skerries) takes its name from the seashore immediately below the property. It is situated at the end of a quiet private drive and overlooks the historic anchorage of Scapa Flow, Italian Chapel, Churchill Barriers and South Isles. A small shop and post office are located a short walk away.
There are a number of picturesque walks nearby, a children's play park, public pier and slipway. There are also many lovely sandy beaches with sheltered places for swimming or other activities. Wildlife is right outside with seals regularly basking on the skerries below the house. Loch of Ayre is a popular birdwatching location with public hides and wooded walks to explore. You may be lucky and even spot whales or orcas in Scapa flow. Sea angling is popular off the pier or barriers.
As well as fully controllable underfloor heating and triple glazing there is a mechanical ventilation system to ensure that the internal environment is as pleasant as possible. A vaulted ceiling gives a sense of spaciousness while the floor to ceiling gable window makes maximum use of daylight and sea views. Take in the fresh Orkney air and relax to the sound of seabirds on the private south facing patio. An open plan sitting room with fully fitted kitchen and dining area provides space for socialising and relaxing. Solar panels on the roof along with a heat pump ensure environmentally friendly heating and hot water.
There is ample, almost level, free parking situated at the end of our private drive. Access paths are hard paved and level apart from a few steps down to the patio. Parking is adjacent to the main entrance and bedroom.
An electric vehicle charging point is located on the external corner of the annexe next to the carpark for the exclusive use of residents at extra cost. If preferred there is also a public charging point at the nearby community centre which is part of the Chargeplace Scotland network.
The main town of Kirkwall is an easy 14 minute drive away. A short walk takes you to the main road where you can catch frequent local services to Kirkwall and the rest of Orkney.
