Housed in a former mission hall in a peaceful village on the Westside of Lewis, just 25 minutes drive from the main town of Stornoway, Snowberry Cottage is in the perfect location to explore all our islands have to offer. Recently renovated (2023), this single level cottage provides charming self-catering accommodation for up to four people.
With two bedrooms - one a kingsize double, the other with two singles - there is plenty of space for four people - either a small family, a group of friends or couples. Both bedrooms have drawers and open wardrobes to store your belongings, as well as a hairdryer and an electric fan (in the summer!) in each bedroom. Please note the house is not suitable for children under the age of 6.
The cosy lounge complete with Smart TV (don’t forget your streaming service passwords!), board games and books, is ideal for relaxing at the end of a day's exploring.
The generous bathroom has a bath and an over-bath shower, perfect for indulgent dips.
Whilst the kitchen diner is equipped with everything you could possibly need for a comfortable home-from-home stay (including a comfortable dining area for four people), there is a restaurant less than half a mile away if you just want to have a day off (booking essential, closed on Sundays).
There is plenty of parking on site, enough for two cars, and secure bicycle storage for those taking it at a more leisurely pace.
For those long summer days (and nights!) the south facing, secure garden with decking area boasts views over the surrounding countryside, across to the Uig Hills, with a seaview visible in the distance.
The property is on a good bus route (W1), just 25 minutes drive from the main town of Stornoway.
We’ve tried to mix the old and the new in the cottage, so while we try to have all the mod cons (please note there is no dishwasher), they are mingled with an array of antique items in keeping with the age of the house.
The village of Borve has a hotel with restaurant and pub (booking essential), a small convenience store, a doctors surgery, a lovely rocky shoreline just a short walk away, and a pottery and gift shop - so whilst the property is secluded and cosy, it is within walking distance of some fabulous amenities. Please note the amenities are always closed on a Sunday, and there is no public transport on a Sunday.
A short drive to many of the historic sites, the island is also renowned for its wildlife. The Cottage is also situated in an area with very little light pollution, so it is also a fantastic place from which to spot the Northern Lights when (if!) they appear.
A great spot for cyclists, motorcyclists, walkers, surfers, birdwatchers, and nature lovers -and everyone in between!
Please note the following (boring but necessary!) points:
Due to Scottish licence legislation, no more than four people can be accommodated in the property at any one time.
The property has a three night minimum stay.
