Squirrel Cottage is the ground floor wing of a traditional Coach House. It is entirely private with windows looking out at the back on to a small wildlife pond and oak wood. Formal gardens to the front of the large sunroom/dinning room. Red Squirrel Feeders and bird feeders to the front and back. It is kept free of all pets for those with allergies.
Squirrel cottage is decorated and furnished to a high standard, as we would our own home. As one pair of guests said “The accommodation was superlative and is highly recommended. We were very comfortable and the rooms are large!”
Squirrel Cottage Pitlochry sunroom has two wicker relaxing chairs and a large round dining room table with 6 chairs. It is fitted with pull down blinds all round allows for privacy and shutting out the sunlight if required.
The comfortable living room has a sofa, armchair and television with video, DVD player and wood pellet stove. There are two windows that look out on to the wooded gorge of the Altgurnaig Burn (stream) that runs along Squirrel Cottage. It is on account of the steep gorge that Squirrel Cottage is not suitable for children under 16 years of age.
Squirrel cottage heating system, pellet fire, electricity, hot water and telephone. Oil fired central heating ensures the cottage is kept as warm as you require. Oil is charged based on your usage (you pay exactly what we are charged – there is no mark-up), we believe this is the fairest way of doing this (as opposed to us adding a fixed additional charge, which results in those who use less are subsidising those who use more.). Some guests hardly use any oil heating, as they are out all the time, while others like to staying Squirrel Cottage for most of their stay, enjoying the wildlife.
The wood pellet fire in the living room – this allows you extra heat plus a real flame. Wood pellets are £3 per coal scuttle, each scuttle burns for about 4 hours continuously.
Electricity is used for lights, fridge, and small freezer, and hot water. Charges vary upon usage £3 to £10 for the week, the highest reading we have had was £10.
There is a land line telephone incoming calls are free, outgoing calls are charged at cost (you pay exactly what we are charged – there is no mark-up), a reading will be taken when you arrive, and when you leave and payment made for the units used,.
The beds can be made up as doubles or twin single beds (let us know when you book how you want them made up). There is plenty of cupboard space, in the bedroom, with a built in cupboard all along one wall.
The large double glazed one way bedroom window looks out on a bird feeder, a small wildlife pond, a couple of squirrel feeders and the Oak wood at the back of the house. It is here Roe Deer are occasionally seen early in the mornings or in deep winter January, February and March feeding in the middle of the day.
Squirrel Cottage Pitlochry bathroom consists of a cast iron bath, a high pressure main shower (so plenty of pressure). The shower also has a shower seat for those who prefer to have a seated shower, it flips down from the wall. There is a toilet and wash hand basin. We also provide two large towels and hand towels, plus a couple of rolls of toilet paper.
The bathroom is situated just outside the bedroom literally one step away from the bedroom door.
The kitchen backs on to the living room, with two windows looking out on the stone drive. The work tops are on 3 sides, a washing machine, dish washer, fridge, kitchen top freezer and micro wave with pots and pans, all cutlery, hand towels and crockery provided.
Squirrel Cottage by Pitlochry is a lovely self catering cottage, ideal for couples looking for something that bit special.
