Tanderlane is a stunning interior designed Georgian Farmhouse set at the foot of the Lammermuir Hills just outside the village of Garvald. Whether you come to East Lothian to play golf, bicycle, walk, fish, shoot, visit castles or our incredible beaches Niall and Sarah Donaldson will make you feel welcome and looked after with terrific hospitality, in elegant bedrooms decorated with beautiful art and antiques. All bedrooms have crisp cotton sheets, fluffy white towels and bathrobes, hairdryers and fresh flowers from the garden.
There is a tennis court, indoor pool table and table tennis table for guests use.
There are no TV’s in the bedrooms but there is a large sitting room for guests use with a log fire to cosy down with a good book, or have a game of backgammon or chess.
East Lothian is a treasure trove of beauty to experience and adventures to be had. Having lived here for 20 years I am still finding new and interesting things to do. Whether it’s along our stunning coastline, on the golden beaches or in the rolling countryside you can be assured that you will enjoy life to the full during your stay here. There are opportunities for sport, relaxation, culture, good food and at Tanderlane a comfy bed and delicious breakfast to set you up for the day.
East Lothian, known as Scotland’s golf coast offers several links golf courses. The most famous being Muirfield, North Berwick, Gullane and Craigielaw.
For activities, you could try, surfing, check out Coast to Coast surf school, bicycling along the Go East Lothian Trail, cable wake boarding at Foxlake which also has the UK’s only ropes course set over water or go on a motor boat out to The Bass Rock. You could walk, cycle or horse ride along the John Muir Way.
The beaches here are incredible. I enjoy them in all seasons and in all weather. My favourites are Tyninghame, Seacliff, Belhaven Bay and Yellowcraigs.
Eating good food is always important and Scotland’s larder provides us with the freshest and most delicious ingredients. Try the Lobster Shack in North Berwick or our many delicious fish and chip shops. Great pubs include, our local, The Garvald Inn, The Crown in East Linton, The Rocks, Dunbar or The Bonnie Badger, Gullane.
Particularly good restaurants are Greywalls Hotel, Gullane, Osteria in North Berwick, La Potiniere in Gullane or if there are six or more of you I am happy to provide dinner at Tanderlane.
If it’s a bit of culture you’re after. Why not visit Roslyn Chapel, famous for it’s starring role in The Da Vinci Code ,The National Museum of Flight, The Seabird Centre, Glenkinchie Distillery or some of our magnificent castles. Dirleton and Tantallon are my favourites.
For those of you visiting in September The Lammermuir Festival is a must.
We look forward to welcoming you to our home.
