Foraging weekend at Airds in Port Appin, Nr Oban, Argyll
Friday 23rd September – Sunday 25th September 2016
The West Coast of Scotland holds claim to being the heart of Scotland’s Larder. From world renowned fish and shellfish to some of the finest meat and game. It is clear to see why our Chef revels in this location. However it does not stop there. Throughout the year the land provides many wild herbs and fungi that help to create that final dish. For our Chefs, the excitement begins in the early spring when the wild garlic season begins and fills the countryside and many a fine kitchen with that wonderful aroma. Thereafter the Chefs can be seen foraging in their favourite (sometime secret) locations for other herbs such as Sweet Cicely, Ground Elder and lady’s Smock. This all culminates in September when the conditions are perfect for The wild mushrooms to decorate the forest floor.
We are delighted that celebrated Chef and now expert Forager Gary Goldie has agreed to lead our foraging weekend this September. Gary is one of the country’s foremost experts on foraging, a talent that has taken him to forage recently for Noma in Denmark and In de Wulf in Belgium. He has now returned to Argyll to the forests and trails that he knows best and is supplying the restaurants across Scotland. Who better to lead our party.
The weekend commences on Friday evening with a champagne drinks reception and dinner in the hotel where you and your fellow “vegetarian stalkers” can meet and discuss the plans for the day ahead.
After a leisurely breakfast on Saturday morning we will head out to some of Gary’s favourite locations just a short distance from the hotel where he will identify what can be foraged and perhaps more importantly what should be left alone! You will the return to the hotel, and while you enjoy a hot bath, or a warming dram by the fire, Gary and Head Chef Chris Stanley will prepare a wonderful Gourmet seven course culinary extravaganza based on the fruits of your labours.
With rates strting from £435 for participants and £355 for non participants, this weekend promises to be both fun and informative.
For more information and to make a reservation please call the hotel direct on 01631 730236.
