Located on the NC500 route near Ullapool, The Elphin Bothy is an ideal base for exploring Assynt and North-West Sutherland. A warm, comfortable cabin set in its own secluded private garden, it's suitable for groups of 3-4 people. There is off-road parking and lots of room for bikes or motorbikes. Close to mountains, lochs, rivers and sandy beaches, it's a great place for walkers, climbers, anglers or young families. With bedding, towels and hot showers provided, The Elphin Bothy offers rustic outdoor living with plenty of indoor creature comforts.
There is a double/single bunkbed with room for a further single bed or travel cot if needed. All bedding and bedlinen are provided. The well-equipped kitchenette has an oven/grill, slow cooker, kettle, microwave, cookware, crockery and cutlery. There are indoor and outdoor seating areas and a gas barbeque in the garden. The garden faces east and is a lovely place to sit with a morning coffee. The outhouse bathroom has a hot shower and flushing toilet. Towels and toilet paper are provided. The bathroom is for the exclusive use of Elphin Bothy. The Elphin Bothy is insulated and has electric heating. Electricity is charged through a pre-pay meter which takes £1 coins.
Local produce from Elphin can be bought at the Elphin Market on Wednesdays at the village hall. A mobile fishmonger stops at the village hall at 3pm on Wednesdays. The Elphin Tea Rooms serve snacks and light meals throughout the day, whilst the Altnacealgach Inn is open for daytime and evening meals. The nearest shopping centre is in Ullapool which has a supermarket, filling station, garage, fishmonger, newsagent and pharmacy.
The Elphin Bothy has far-reaching mountain views to Suliven. Other iconic peaks such as Stac Pollaidh, Ben Mor Assynt and Quinag are within twenty minutes drive. A heated clothes-airer is available for drying wet clothing and equipment.
Elphin is surrounded by famous trout lochs and salmon rivers. We are happy to arrange fishing permits for these waters.
The Elphin Bothy is suitable for young families. The small, private garden is safe for toddlers and young children. The Elphin river is two minutes walk away and older children will love splashing in the water and playing on the trees. The beautiful sandy beaches of Assynt are a thirty minute drive away. There is no wifi or mobile signal in the Elphin Bothy. Instead there are board games and playing cards.
The Elphin Bothy is on a working farm so unfortunately no dogs are allowed.
We charge £60/night for the whole bothy and ask for a minimum 2 night stay.
