The Flat is situated on the Burns and Solway Coast Heritage Trails and only 2 miles from the Wildfowl and Wetlands Reserve at Caerlaverock and a 30 minute drive from the RSPB Reserve at Mersehead.
In winter flocks of Barnacle Geese fly past your window morning and evening and other geese, waders and ducks can be seen on the river opposite the house. Otters are often spotted nearby and in summertime porpoises and seals have been seen in the river. This area is a nature-lover's paradise. Also well-placed for gentle walking, cycling, fishing, sightseeing and relaxing. There are lovely beaches only half an hour's drive away and Caerlaverock Castle is nearby.
Glencaple has a busy shop and tearoom and a popular hotel which serves lunches and dinners to non-residents all year round.
