Sleeps 6 + 2
You will be swept away by this unique, quirky and historical beach house! The Ice House is snuggled into a backdrop of volcanic cliffs behind the dunes of St Cyrus beach and Nature Reserve. This former Skippers quarters and ice storage building is intrinsic to the history of this beautiful area. Originally used by the fishermen to arrange their nets, it was then turned into an ice house in the late 1700’s so that locally netted salmon could be kept then sent to the London market. It is your chance to experience a magical retreat within a truly breathtaking environment.
The interiors are quirky with the original stone walls and vaulted ceilings yet the design has made the most of the light flooding in the front through French windows and doors and through the former ceiling shafts. It is very tastefully presented – wood floors, wood burning stove, 1 kingsize bedroom with en-suite, 1 double bedroom self-contained in its own wing with en-suite and patio doors, a further double bedroom also with patio doors to the front and a spectacular family bathroom with luxury infra-red sauna. The open plan kitchen/dining/sitting room is a perfect socialising space and there is a mezzanine area which can be used as a single sleeping area or chill out space whilst still keeping an eye on everything. A perfect holiday retreat for family and friends to get together.
The Ice House enjoys rooftop sea views, is set in its own private 3.5 acre plot which is itself set in several acres of nature reserve with a bridge leading across the dunes to the sea. To the rear you have a cycle track/bridal path leading along paths sheltered by the natural barriers of inland cliffs. Within the garden area is a unique New Zealand inspired fire pit and seating area, 2 sheltered patio areas and a large picnic bench creating a variety of al fresco dining spots. There is a heated outdoor shower ideal for sandy pets and children (or if you just like singing in the rain!).
St Cyrus beach is a hidden gem protected from the ravages of the weather by the natural barrier of inland cliffs and a seaward ridge of sand dunes. The beach stretches for miles of clean perfect sands with lots to explore including a waterfall and caves. From The Ice House there are walks in either direction along the coast and mountains. Within half an hour you can reach St Cyrus village via steps from the beach where The Village Inn has fantastic pub lunches and evening meals and the local coffee shop has a variety of home bakes. Activities such as rock climbing, hand gliding, fishing, horse riding, cycling, golfing to name but a few activities available locally.
