The name Kingsbarns was derived from the Kings of Scotland storing the grain from the very productive local ambient climate before being transported to Dunfermline and Falkland Palaces from the 11th to the 16th Century whereafter the Monarchy moved to glorious Edinburgh, Scotland’s Capital City.
Situated in the heart of ‘golf country’ this area, called the East Neuk of Fife, has reputedly the most Sunshine hours than any other part of Scotland.
The Inn is located in the Conservation Village of Kingsbarns, close to the bus stop and 10-15 mins walk to the World renowned Kingsbarns Golf Club. We are to be found on the Main route A917 from St. Andrews to the fishing Villages of Crail, Anstruther, Pittenweem, St. Monans and Elie, where you can still watch the fish being landed on a daily basis. There is a beach just 10-15 mins walk away and the Fife Coastal Walk passes by Kingbarns, making it an ideal ‘pitstop’ for the hungry walker or indeed a place to lay your head after a walk along the beautiful East Coast Shoreline.
Golfers have a wide choice of golf courses in this area including World renowned St Andrews Old Course and Kingsbarns, recently included in the World’s top 50 golf courses. Two of Scotland’s greatest icons, whisky and golf were the inspiriation behind the newly opened Kingsbarns Distillery which opened its doors in 2014. And is well worth a visit to enjoy a tour of the spectacular building and see how the whisky is distilled, with a little taste of local whiskies at the end of the tour. For the non-whisky tasters there is a superb café where you can enjoy refreshing teas, freshly made coffees, soups, scones, cakes etc.
St. Andrews is a vibrant University town which has the 3rd oldest University in the English speaking world founded in 1413. Its Architecture truly reflects its medieval to modern history, with all the nooks, crannies and wynds, making it a ‘must see’ for visitors from all around the World. For those with a car, the Secret Bunker is just three miles away.
Kingsbarns is a sleepy Village, just the answer for anyone wishing a break from the hustle and bustle of busy lives.
