The Kirky Hut is a traditional, tastefully decorated shepherds hut, situated in the fields above the village of Kirkmichael. This is the perfect place for people who love nature, countryside and eco-friendly environment! Because of its location even if it's close to "civilisation" it is an ideal hideaway and peaceful, rural retreat!
Nestled in the Strathardle Glen in Highland Perthshire, on the edge of the Cairngorms National Park, the hut is a home base for the outdoor adventurer and offers a warm welcome after a day on the river, mountains or moors!
The hut is positioned on an open field which makes it unreachable by car. You can park your vehicle at The Kirkmichael Hotel car park (the hotel permits this) and take the path along the Hotel which will lead you up to the hut. The best recommended foot wear are wellies or long trousers so you can cross the field safely in the long grass.
Because its on a field, part of farm land, with occasional life stock - mainly sheep, the owners can't allow dogs as much as they love them. Sorry!
The hut is suitable for two people - two adults, or an adult and a child. Please be aware that the owners don't provide cots, high-chair, etc.
In the hut there is a small kitchenette which has everything you will need for your stay - fridge, cooker, kettle, pots, pans, crockery, cutlery, unfortunately no hot water which you can easily have by boiling some in the kettle.
The electricity is provided by solar panels, positioned on the top of the shed. Water comes from a water tank - bottles with drinking water are provided. There is an eco-friendly compost toilet, situated at the back of the hut along with a gas shower room. You have to bring your own toiletries as we know everyone has their own taste and preferences.
Before you have a shower why don't you try the outdoor sauna!
All the linen for the good size double bed is provided, including fresh towels.
There is plenty of storage under the bed and on the wall. Books and games for you to use for some entertainment are provided as well. Sorry no TV but good G4 signal!
In the outside shed there will be plenty of logs for the fire pit, where you can sit by on the bench having your dinner, sipping your glass of wine and enjoying the spectacular views in all directions.
Also you can use the hammock for stargazing in a clear night.
If you get bored of all the peace ant quiet you can easily go down the track and join the locals for a pint and a tasty treat at The Kirky!
There is a 2 night minimum stay with price per night £125 ( July -August -£140 ). Arrivals any day of the week. The hut can be booked from 1st April to 30th October.
The hut is set along one of the Scotland's Great Trails, "The Cateran Trail", a 64 mile circular route through Perthshire and the Angus Glens.
The delightful Victorian town of Pitlochry is an easy reach and a popular tourist destination with Pitlochry Theatre, Loch Faskally, The Pitlochry Dam Visitor Centre and Salmon Ladder as well as Edradour and the Blair Athol Whisky Distilleries.
Throughout October Pitlochry hosts the Enchanted Forest, a unique and magical experience with its pioneering sound and light shows! Also in easy reach are Blair Castle, Glamis Castle, Balmoral Castle and Scone Palace!
