The Outdoor Hotel
Welcome to The Outdoor Hotel, a place to relax, unwind and reconnect. Enjoy all the benefits of being outside, off grid and close to nature, but with all the comfort of a luxury hotel.
Here at the Outdoor Hotel we offer a chance to get back to basics, enjoy the simple style of living from a bygone era and recharge your batteries one sunset at a time.
Situated on a working organic farm you’ll be surrounded by nature and wildlife and the odd stray chicken, but most importantly you’ll feel a thousand miles away from everything, nestled in your own corner of our wildflower meadow.
On cloudless nights you’ll be able to enjoy watching a star filled sky, and on more typically Scottish evenings you’ll be able to curl up by a roaring fire listening to the rain fall on the roof.
At The Outdoor hotel we offer both luxury bell tent accommodation (which sleep two) and bothy stays (can sleep up to six). All offer guests a ‘back to basics’ feel and allow you to enjoy a slower pace of life, cooking over open fires or listening to the sounds of the countryside.
Wherever you choose to rest your head you’ll have your own private (and spacious) shower room and toilet up at the farm steading for the duration of your stay. Our toilets are water free composting toilets and the showers gloriously warm bringing a perfect balance between eco-friendly and luxury.
Our organic farm is managed both holistically and regeneratively which means that our farming processes actively enriching the environment you’ll be staying in, by sequestering carbon and building biodiversity.
Every little detail of your stay has been considered to make it as environmentally friendly as possible, from our eco-friendly cleaning products and green electricity to our waterless toilets and recycling processes. So, you can relax knowing that your little bit of luxury didn’t cost the earth.
During your stay you’ll see, hear and be in and amongst an abundance of creatures from bees and butterflies to birds, rabbits and voles, even the odd deer may pay you a visit. But the most spectacular visitors are our red kites and buzzards who can often be seen soaring over the fields. Field guides are provided so you can identify what you’ve encountered and let us know.
The farm sits on an elevated position on the Nith Valley, so you’ll be able to enjoy watching the most beautiful sunsets from your decking in an evening.
All of our accommodations are equipped with outdoor cooking facilities, and plenty of wood for the fire, so you can enjoy being outdoors
As a working farm good local food is at the heart of everything we do. Although all of our accommodation is self-catering, we do offer food parcels tailored to outdoor, open fire cooking. All of our ingredients are grown locally either on the farm or from local small-scale growers and our menu changes to suit the season. So, you can enjoy the true taste of Dumfries and Galloway without having to travel.
Though if you’re needing a break from cooking there’s the Michelin guide listed Auldgirth Inn less than a five-minute walk away serving delicious meals and boasting a hearty collection of gins and whiskeys.
There is no guaranteed Wi-Fi, though mobile signal is generally quite good, be we urge you to use your time here to un-plug and reconnect. We have a fire pits, plenty of blankets, and a basket full of logs (additional can be purchased) and can’t think of a better way to spend an evening.
Our bell tents have a basic kitchenette with cooking utensils and ethical tea and coffee provided, a water container is also provided and can be refilled whenever you need it from any of the farm taps. There is no power to the bell tents, torches and fairy lights will help you see in the evenings, but we do recommend you turn these off at some point to admire the stars. Plug sockets are available to use up in the shower rooms should you need to recharge any devices.
The bothy has mains electricity and an en-suite bathroom. The kitchen has a few more basics than the bell tent including a small fridge. All the heating and cooking is done via the large wood burning oven in the open plan downstairs area. Please note only cold running water is plumbed into the bothy.
We do provide a breakfast packs, delivered to your tent or bothy, @£12 per person
Sorry no pets or children as we are a working farm and can’t guarantee the farms suitability throughout the year.
We ask all guests to park their car in the main farm steading and walk into the meadow (nothing spoils the peace of your stays than car doors constantly opening and shutting). We do provide wheelbarrows to help you carry your luggage. Paths are mown in the meadow to help you get about; however, it can be slightly damp in places, so we recommend wellies and sensible shoes.
The bell tents are open from April to September, and the bothy is open all year round.
