Luxury self-catering cottage in Dunvegan, Isle of Skye
A Little History
The Rowans is a traditional Skye cottage, built about 100 years ago by my grandfather and great grandfather who were both stonemasons. My father grew up in The Rowans along with his brothers and sisters, and his last surviving sister Hannah, who died a few years ago, left the house to me. I grew up in the Isle of Skye, leaving at 17 to study Zoology at Glasgow University. The Rowans is a croft house, previous generations used to keep sheep, cows and hens and grow vegetables. The Rowans is a great place for wildlife watching. There are minnows in the small stream running through the property, lots of birdlife, including red kites, nightjar, buzzards, marsh warblers, owls, etc. In the summer I have seen dragonflies and pipestrelle bats. The house has been completely renovated to a high standard by my brother-in-law, Ian Dougall, who is a builder in Oban, and is now available for self-catering lets.
