Glen Dye is a private estate of around 30,000 acres and our cabins and cottages sit slap bang at its centre, surrounded by wilderness forest and moorland on the banks of the River Dye. The location is fabled; watched over by the massive granite tor of Clachnaben and at the northern end of the Cairn o Mount mountain pass. This is where the Howe of the Mearns finally gives in to the Highland boundary fault; wild, beautiful and very, very quiet.
We have a handful of perfect holiday cottages, many with outdoor, wood-fired hot tubs and one with its own private cabin. These cabins and cottages combine jaw dropping wild locations with perfect comfort and style.
We have worked hard to create the ultimate outdoors retreat. A fully refurbished 1955 Airstream Safari caravan nestling in a small pine wood beside the sawmill’s fast flowing lade houses an amazing super king bed, close by you will find our Keepers Hut with a comfy king size bed, and a further king size sofa bed is situated in the Seed Store a few metres away. The Seed Store is home to your kitchen, dining room and sitting room in a wonderful wooden building originally created in the late 1800s as a kitchen, refuge and seed store for the estate foresters and now completely updated inside. You will also enjoy your own outdoor wood-fired hot tub and a wonderful outdoor shower created in the bones of the abandoned sawmill.
You will also find possibly the finest barbecue in the world, a Big Green Egg.
As a guest at The Sawmill you also have full access to The Glen Dye Arms, a BYOB pub complete with roaring log fire, ancient bar and record player. You can also use our amazing wood-fired sauna, which was custom-built for us in Wales. And we have endless vegetables and eggs for you to purchase from our very own garden.
