Achgarve consists of a remote scattering of croft-houses in a genuine peaceful Highland community whose welcome you will enjoy. The village has distant views across Gruinard Bay to the high mountains of An Teallach (3,383 ft). You can explore the outstandingly lovely scenery in search of rare birds of prey, and photograph the dramatic landscapes; walk the fine sandy beaches covered with shells while watching seals, possibly otters, and a myriad of seabirds; fish in a nearby loch, or take a whale watching trip from Gairloch. Ferry services operate for vehicles & passengers between Ullapool and Stornoway (Isle of Lewis) and the Summer Isles (passengers only).
Other memorable places to visit are the traditional fishing village of Ullapool, Gairloch Heritage Centre, local arts and crafts, the breathtaking Corrieshalloch Gorge (32 miles), and the famous Inverewe Gardens (9 miles). Local activities include pony-trekking, golf, sailing, sea fishing, bicycle hire and the Leisure Centre (Gairloch), and swimming (Poolewe).
We are convenient for the sights of the popular North Coast 500 route (NC500).
On clear nights, amateur and professional astronomers can enjoy an unparalleled view of the night sky, unpolluted by street-lighting. It's sometimes possible to see the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis).
