If you close your eyes and imagine the most picturesque, romantic Scottish Highland scene, the chances are it will look like this.
The Shell at Ardtur enjoys the most spectacular setting with outstanding views across Loch Linnhe to the mountains of Kingairloch with the Isles of Lismore and Shuna and the historic Castle Stalker.
This lovely holiday house, approached by a long tree-lined private drive, is located on the edge of the pretty Argyll fishing village of Port Appin, half way between Fort William and Oban. Newly renovated and extended to maximise its exceptional position, this inspiring self-catering property offers everything you could wish for in the way of luxury, peace and relaxation.
Throughout, the interiors are beautifully presented with a perfect mix of antique and contemporary creating a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere. Cooks will delight at the large, well designed and generously equipped kitchen and the long dining table is a wonderful gathering place. The impressive double height sitting room with its rich oak floor, central log burner and huge glass front makes the most of the views and when the patio doors are pulled back this exceptional open-plan living space is at one with the outside. From here you can enjoy the magical changing light and colours as spectacular sunsets disappear over the horizon or marvel at the enchanting morning mist skimming the loch.
Sleeping up to 10 guests in five stylishly decorated bedrooms, great care and attention has been taken to provide everything needed for a memorable self-catering break with deep mattresses, crisp linen, generous fluffy towels plus many other thoughtful touches. The front king size bedroom suite, cleverly positioned on the mezzanine level, offers a secluded retreat and the spacious ground floor bedroom with its luxurious super-king bed and ensuite shower room makes it ideal for the less-abled guest with unrestricted wheelchair access.
Stroll down to the beautiful and peaceful shoreline where you will find a long shingle and sand beach with an abundance of shells and discover the amazing wildlife that thrives in and around this beautiful sea loch. Seals, porpoises and dolphins can all be spotted, as well a large variety of sea and coastal birds including magnificent white-tailed eagles. Port Appin, with its award-winning seafood restaurant and renowned hotel, can also be reached by walking along the shoreline. There are regular passenger ferries from the village to the Island of Lismore and the cycle track from Glencoe to Oban can be reached by crossing the nearby impressive Jubilee Footbridge and boardwalk over the tidal marshes.
