Arthurstone House was formerly the family home of Robert Carmichael, head of the renowned Jute & Flax Mills of the Baxter Brothers, Dundee, in the 19th Century. The property has been re-modelled and added-to ever since it was built in the end of the 18th Century; and in 1990 it became the home of Butterstone School, a small independent boarding school for girls. More recently, it was developed into 15 luxury homes, of which The Skiach, a large 2-bedroomed apartment, occupies the upper north-west corner of the Main Hall building. The house and apartment retain much of the original character as do the ornamental grounds around the house. Our guests are able enjoy the 37 acres of property, and are welcomed to walk the fields and woodlands which include a curling rink (now a wonderful place for nature) and a Victorian bothy. Games such as Croquet and Boules are provided for our guest’s enjoyment in addition to tennis rackets and balls for use on our tennis courts.
The Skiach boasts two large double rooms (one en-suite) with very comfortable beds and hypo-allergenic fine Egyptian cotton sheets, fluffy white towels and bathrobes. The second bathroom is adjacent to the family bathroom (large bath with shower-over), large living room and extensively equipped kitchen with dining area overlooking the lawns, woodlands and Rhododendrons. By prior arrangement, a luxurious 'welcome basket' is provided for our guest's arrival to The Skiach, and we assure you that you won't have to go shopping the next day for breakfast. One of our bug-bears when travelling to self catering is to find a poorly stocked fridge, a bottle of wine that we don't like, and only one toilet roll! We aim to provide sufficient provisions to sustain you for your first day, at least.

Our aim is to ‘go the extra mile’ to make our guests as comfortable as possible so they enjoy their Scottish holidays, and of course we hope to welcome you back again, and again.
