The Smiddy has been renovated to an extremely high standard, incorporating energy-saving technologies, and provides a relaxing hideaway for up to two people, with stunning views across the machair. Berneray is a small island famed for its spectacular golden beaches and colourful machair, with plenty to offer wildlife enthusiasts, walkers, canoeists or those simply in search of peace and quiet. The island is well served by a shop, tearoom, post office and information centre (the latter open in summer months only) and North Uist provides a number of restaurants and bars.
The Smiddy's combination of remoteness and comfort promises a unique get-away-from-it-all experience. The accommodation comprises an open-plan living/sleeping/dining area with large window affording uninterrupted, panoramic views of the machair and sunsets beyond. A gas-fired stove and underfloor heating will keep you warm during your stay, and a music system and television are provided for indoor entertainment. The bedroom area is furnished with two beds which can also form a large double, as required, and a contemporary Whirlpool bath. The kitchen is fully equipped with electric oven, microwave and fridge.
The Smiddy also contains a wet room and utility area with washer/dryer and dishwasher. For those wishing to keep in touch with the outside world, there is a small, separate office with computer, printer/scanner and phone.
The accommodation is all on one level with category 3 (assisted) wheelchair access throughout.
