Between Bonar Bridge (11m, all facilities, golf course) and Lairg in Sutherland is the peaceful valley of the Oykel, and here, flanked by moors and hills, is the Steading, a beautifully converted, detached farm building of traditional design.
All on one level, set on a grassy terrace with wonderful views of the valley, it is light and airy, with a fine panelled ceiling in the open–plan living area. The cottage is finished to the highest standards, with both bedrooms en suite.
The Oykel is a famous salmon river, flanked by wildflower meadows and woodlands affording delightful walks, with the tempting heights of Ben More Assynt in the background. For touring, Ullapool (38m) on the west coast, the stunning scenery of the Coigach, or Dornoch (24m) to the south east, with its wonderful beaches and golf course, are easily reached.
