Yurt - Experience a little bit of Eastern Promise when you stay in our traditional Mongolian yurt set in the grounds of our decrofted house, on the hill at Gartymore, Helmsdale with spectacular views looking out over the Moray Firth seascape. It is ideal if you are looking for an indulgent, relaxed and peaceful holiday destination.
A fully equipped traditional Mongolian yurt with exclusive private use.
Our guests can benefit from private parking, fenced-off garden with bbq and outside dining area, raised decking with bistro table and chairs, private washing, toilet and shower enclosure next to the yurt. Inside there is a double bed, kitchen area with 2-ring cooker, wood burning stove, double bed-settee, drawers and lots of other hidden extras. All bedding, toiletries and towels are supplied along with tea, coffee and cooking basics.
Unlike a tent, yurts are constructed with an inner lattice frame and roof poles. Ours has a 3-layer system inner wadding and an outer layer of silicone treated poly-canvas for waterproofing. For insulation the roof and walls are made from 100% sheep’s wool felt and the inner layer is white polyester, which covers the felt and allows light to reflect around the yurt. The floor is also insulated. This makes it perfectly adapted to suit the Scottish climate.
Studio - The studio is attached to our stone-built croft house which looks out from the hill over stunning views of the beautiful expanse of sea in front. It is the ideal long or short-stay accommodation for touring the NC500, fishing the River Helmsdale or even as a night’s stop-off on the way to or from Orkney.
Newly completed in 2019; our studio has 4 cosy bunk beds with their own individual lights, usb sockets, shelves and locker boxes. All bedding is supplied which includes duvet, pillows, sheets, covers. There is a kitchenette/dining area incorporating: microwave with grill, twin induction hob, fridge and kettle. Tea, coffee, crockery and utensils are supplied. The lounge has 2 bucket chairs, 2 beanbags and a coffee table. Off the lounge is the shower room with toilet and sink. All toiletries and towels are supplied. Adjacent to the studio there is a drying room with a storage area for bicycles, equipment etc. We have a covered porch to the front with bench seating and ample parking for 2 large vehicles.
We are COVID ready and 'Good to Go'. This means that we have put in place measures to keep both our guests and ourselves as safe as we can:- Before each guest's arrival, both the yurt and the bunkhouse will have been deep-cleaned and sanitized and all soft furnishings, including bedding and towels, will have been put through a 60 degree wash cycle. Where this is not possible, such as on the static furniture, wall hangings, rugs etc, these areas will have been fogged with anti-viral mist. Pots, pans, cutlery, glasswear and any other handled products will be either re-washed or cleaned with disinfectant wipes. We will provide our guests with hand-sanitizer and anti-bacterial wipes and cleaning products during their stay with us.
Check-in/ check-out is a smooth process - We are on site if you need us however both properties will be open and the keys inside. Just turn up and enjoy! When it is time to go you just leave the keys inside and open the door and windows before you are on your way. If you need to meet with us, say goodbye or we need to enter, we request that you wear a mask and keep a distance of at least 2 metres.
Books and games have been removed however, we can provide these on condition that you wear the protective gloves issued.
We want you to have a safe and enjoyable holiday with us therefore please do not hesitate to contact us if there is anything that we can do for you in addition to these measures that will reassure you further.
Jackie and Paul.
