This former Schoolmaster’s house has been renovated into one of the nicest small country houses we have seen. It has a real warmth and charm is extremely comfortable and furnished with great taste and comfort. There are stripped wooden floors, wood burning stoves, luxurious bathrooms and bedrooms and a wonderful practical yet stylish kitchen. Full of original features such as wooden shutters that date back to its former life as the Schoolmasters this is a light bright spacious home with high ceilings and a sense of welcome.
The house has a large and pretty garden that borders on the upper reaches of the River Tweed. There is a steep bank to the river and whilst it is fenced you will need to keep a close eye on small children. The river is a delightful spot where a sitting area has been set up and the sound can be heard from the house. Calming and beautiful. It is a very quiet and beautiful area with pretty views from the garden and the house.
The bedrooms are all presented with crisp cotton linens and delicious inviting beds whilst the bathrooms are new and immaculate and the family bathroom is huge and inviting.
The Borders are very beautiful and a bit of a secret getaway with Edinburgh and Glasgow less than an hour away. It is an area worth exploring from the famous Traquair House to the many Border towns like Melrose, Biggar and Peebles. There is plenty of excellent low and high level walking in the area and cycling is extremely popular. For fishermen and women there is endless opportunity for local fishing and perhaps treat yourself to a luxurious Spa day at nearby Stobo Castle before sinking into your fabulous bed at night.
