The peaceful gardens that surround the house are a riot of colour in summer and a family of red squirrels have their home in an impressive cedar tree within the garden grounds.
If first impressions are to be a lasting impression then winding up the private driveway to Wardlaw House will not disappoint. The B Listed former Manse dates from the 1700s and the refurbishment now offers luxury accommodation with all the original fine features of the Georgian era, of particular note is the stunning window wall in the siting room formed from floor to ceiling sash windows (note the glass is fragile). The window makes the room light and airy, perfect for enjoying the colours of the garden and the cheeky resident red squirrels. In winter time the wood stove in the sitting room keeps it warm and cosy; just the place to sit and relax after a day out exploring the local area. The first floor bedrooms all have views to the garden and the principal bedroom’s four poster will make for a memorable stay in this charming house.
The popular historical TV Outlander series has connections to the house as the "Real" Simon Fraser, Lord Lovat (The Old Fox of the Jacobite Wars) was Grandfather to the Jamie in the television series and The Old Fox is buried just 100 metres from Wardlaw House in the ‘A Listed Wardlaw Mausoleum’; access to the Mausoleum can be arranged through the owners.
The local area has many real historic and cultural sites close by including the historic town of Beauly just four miles away, home to the Lovat Scouts and Mary Queen of Scots who resided at Beauly Abbey. The most famous battlefield at Culloden is just a 30 minute drive with an excellent visitor centre and slightly further afield you can take your pick of castles such as Dunrobin Castle or Fort George. A short drive puts you on the Scottish Whisky Trail and there is also easy access to the NC500 road trail. The stunning Glen Affric is not to be missed, often called the most beautiful glen in Scotland with sweeping mountains, lochs and remnants of the old Caledonian Scots Pine Forest.
The owner has over 30 years’ experience in hospitality and her partner remains very knowledgeable having been a Scottish Tourist Guide. They live on site and are at hand if anything is needed during a guests stay to ensure you have a thoroughly enjoyable and memorable holiday.
