Edinburgh Castle is at the other end of the Royal Mile, about 10 minutes’ walk away. The Salisbury Crags provide a scenic backdrop to Crichton’s Close, wherefrom the apartment is accessed.
First off the vestibule is the bathroom, which has a shower over the bath and a mounted towel rail opposite. The bathroom is decorated in duck egg blue and white, interspersed with black in the chequered flooring, and completed with a pop art style psychedelic rubber duck portrait.
On the other side of the vestibule is the master bedroom in neutral, earthy tones and with a pleasantly musky atmosphere. It has a double bed and windows over Bakehouse Close. There is a digital alarm radio on top of the chest of drawers and also a hair dryer within them.
Directly off the vestibule is the kitchen/ living room, the main catering and entertainment space. The room is well-lit from the street-side windows, next to which is the foldable dining table. A 3-seater sofa-bed resides under watercolours of the Grassmarket and Canongate, for comfortable viewing of the flatscreen HD TV with DVD player. The WiFi hub can also be found under the TV, beside which is a large storage cabinet housing a CD player with some CDs, as well as books by Robert Burns and Eleanor Atkinson, and a globe highlighting local landmarks. The kitchenette is equipped with a microwave, hob and oven, fridge-freezer, cutlery, crockery, pots and pans. The washer-dryer is located here too, as well as a couple of clothes horses, and an ironing board and mounted iron are contained in the adjoining cupboard for the apartment’s boiler.
