West Lodge Hutton Castle is an impressive 19th century country house set in extensive, secluded garden grounds in the rolling Berwickshire countryside.
At the heart of the house is the grand sitting room that has a lovely open fire to toast yourself in front of. The huge Aga in the kitchen is a joy to cook on and upstairs the three double bedrooms are all spacious, light and beautifully presented. Outside the large, enclosed garden has several seating areas to enjoy the peaceful surroundings from and there is even a treehouse.
The Allanton Inn (2.5m) has an excellent restaurant and also offers fishing permits. At Berwick-uponTweed (9.5 m) there are lots of shops and eateries and the coastline has several sandy beaches. Visitors will enjoy Paxton House, a Palladian country house with a large collection of Chippendale furniture. On the Hirsel Estate near Coldstream (13m) are pretty woodland walks, an 18 hole golf course and a charming tearoom and you can catch the train from Berwick for a day of sightseeing or shopping in Edinburgh.
