A genuine Log Cabin, on the Cowal Peninsula, at the edge of the Argyll Forest; Close to Puck's Glen and Loch Eck, yet only 6 miles from Dunoon's shops and facilities.
Willows Lodge is our warm and cosy real log cabin, situated on a small private site, of eighteen similar lodges. The site is at Rashfield, about six miles north of Dunoon, on the Cowal peninsula in southern Argyll, within the Argyll Forest Park. The lodge is very roomy, and comprises kitchen, lounge, (with Log Burning stove), three bedrooms, bathroom and covered veranda. We bought it in 2013, and have refurbished it throughout. The lodge is warmed by electric storage heaters, with the option to light the log burner as well. Logs are available locally and cheaply.
We've tried to create a relaxing "home away from home", to enable guests to have a relaxing holiday, where they can do as much or as little as they like. We've also tried to make the place "dog friendly", and there are miles of paths which can be accessed just yards from the lodge, where well behaved dogs (and humans) can roam free. We've been coming to the area for over ten years, and are still finding new places to walk with our dogs.
The Cowal offers a range of outdoor activities, such as walking, cycling, mountain biking, fishing and touring by car, and has beautiful and varied scenery, from forest and hillside walking, to quiet beaches and riverside walks, and spectacular coastal inlets such as Loch Striven and The Kyles of Bute to the south, and Loch Fyne to the north and west. The site is close to Pucks Glen and Benmore Botanical Gardens, and is close to the river Eachaig, between Loch Eck and the Holy Loch.
The lodge is spacious and well equipped, with fitted kitchen, breakfast bar, large lounge, with dining area, and veranda, with outdoor seating for four people. There is a large screen TV in the lounge, and a Wii console, together with a DVD player, with a large selection of DVDs. There is also a selection of books to read.
The town of Dunoon is about six miles away, and has supermarkets, cinema, swimming pool, and plenty of shops and places to eat. Locally, there is a petrol station with general store about a mile away, and plenty of pubs serving good food and real ale, that are not too far away.
