The great outdoors can be enjoyed on the unspoilt sandy beaches of the Solway Firth, the nearest of which is at Powfoot, with numerous others to be found along the Solway Coast. For the adventurous cyclist sections of the 7 Stanes Mountain Bike Trails can be found at both Ae and Mabie Forests both within a 30 minute drive, for those looking for a more gentle ride there are plenty of quiet country roads around about. There are superb opportunities for outdoor activities both along the coast and inland where there is a great variety of river walks through to the hilltops giving magnificent panoramas to enjoy. Golf courses with great variety ranging from a links course at Powfoot to the sheltered contrast of Hoddam Castle riverside course. The Devils Porridge Museum tells the story of the greatest WW1 munitions factory on earth at nearby Eastriggs and Caerlaverock Nature Reserve, WWT centre and unique triangular castle a short drive away
