We could hardly celebrate 25 years of Celtic Connections without one of the festival’s now-fabled late-night ceilidhs in the big hall. And there’s no one more fitting to host such a monumental hootenanny than veteran dancefloor supremos The Occasionals – themselves 32 years young in 2018, and still unsurpassed in their field. Even if you’re hazy on the precise differences between ceilidh, old-time and Scottish country dancing – these guys will infallibly keep you right, twinning strict-tempo discipline with free-flowing brio. Freeland Barbour and his ultra-accomplished bandmates Kevin Macleod, Neil MacMillan, Gus Millar and Alison Smith will also be joined by special guests Duncan MacGillivray and Angie MacEachern.
As at previous such events, with sections of the stalls in the Hall cleared to make plenty of birling room, all bars will stay open suitably late, and patrons desiring a breather or a blether are welcome also to ceilidh in these areas.
