Celebrate the season of summer by creating your very own zine inspired by the natural world! Children will learn how to fold and design a mini-book filled with drawings, collages, stories, and facts about plants, animals, and outdoor adventures-whatever theyre most passionate about! A brilliant blend of art and nature.
These workshops are part of the Central Librarys 2025 Summer Reading Challenge: Story Garden Adventures in Nature and the Great Outdoors. Inspired by this years theme, each session invites children to explore the connection between storytelling and nature.
Through creative, hands-on activitieslike building a shoebox story world, crafting a concertina sketchbook, or designing a nature zinechildren will engage with nature and storytelling through art. These sessions support the Challenges aim of encouraging reading for pleasure over the summer, helping to spark curiosity, nurture confidence, and keep young minds engaged through play, creativity, and the natural world.
All workshops are free to attend, and open to children aged 8 to 12 years. The workshops run on Tuesdays 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th July. Participants can attend as many workshops as they wish. There will be some on the day tickets available for drop-ins.
Katie is a childrens workshop facilitator and writing consultant who specialises in creating imaginative, welcoming spaces where young people can explore their creativity. From story-themed art activities to nature-inspired crafts, she designs workshops that spark curiosity, build confidence, and encourage self-expression. With a focus on inclusion and fun, Katie helps children connect with storiesboth their own and the ones they readthrough hands-on, engaging experiences.
