Mini lunchtime talk from Jean Paul Baptiste. Hear about the work of this extremely engaging artist over sandwiches and coffee.
I was born in the Middle East in the early 80s of mixed heritage. Growing up in a melting pot of mixed values there was less of an emphasis on personal choice and freedom giving way to collectivism as a fundamental aspect of reasoning. Having moved to Scotland a few years ago, most of my work is a reaction informed by the social and cultural interaction between the east and the west. My background and previous work in architecture and fashion have led to the development of my practice and give relevance to my approach. I paint not to paint beautifully but to convey an idea. I am continually striving to communicate a concept in a visual medium provoking an emotive response, something that will leave a longer lasting impression than, perhaps, a factual chronology would.
