Chris Kent is an artist, illustrator and writer. He is fascinated by words and images. His work has included graphic novels, wood sculpture with text, performance with projected images and text.
The Artists Books workshop will be a practical course, students will produce their own artist book. (A unique object that uses the form of a book to list, illustrate, inform, question and entertain).
There are no formal entry requirements for this workshop. Definitely a learning by doing course!
The workshop will cover some of the following ideas and themes, which may include Patrick Geddes' ideas relating to eastern philosophy; our interconnectedness; our interactions with the natural and manmade environment; the city as a series of interlocking patterns; the wellbeing of all people, plus ecology and green politics.
Materials used will include: paper, card, tissue, tracing paper, magazine cuttings, thin plywood, string, twine, wire, pencils, pens, inks, adhesive,
Techniques used will include print (monoprinting), 2D and 3D possibilities, handwriting, arts and crafts, abstraction, surrealism and pop art.
Please bring along any ideas that you have, plus any small favourite objects, materials that you would like to add to the work.
