The annual East Lothian Battle Weekend returns to Prestonpans.
The Battle of Prestonpans was the first significant battle in the Jacobite Rising of 1745. The Jacobite army loyal to James Francis Edward Stuart was led by his son Charles Edward Stuart (Bonnie Prince Charlie) defeated the government army loyal to the Hanoverian George II led, by Sir John Cope. The victory was a huge morale boost for the Jacobites, and a heavily mythologised version of the story entered art and legend.
Witness the dramatic events of the Bonnie Prince Charlie's first battle, as the Jacobite Highlanders sweep to victory over the redcoats of Sir John Cope.
With fascinating living history camps, cameo scenes, fun crafts and spectacular battles, this event is not to be missed and an unique opportunity to find out what really happened at this critical point in British history.
This year promises a wider programme of events that ever before with increased activities for all ages, local food and drink and the opportunity to browse stalls.
