Following a sell-out performance of Handels most famous work in 2017, Opera dei Lumi are delighted to return to the intimate surroundings of the Picture Gallery at Paxton House with another Messiah.
Bringing together the finest musical talent from across the UK, this year Opera dei Lumi will explore Handels performances in London in 1750 - a watershed moment in the works evolution to how we know and love it today.
Join us to revel in the effervescence of this magnificent masterpiece, featuring many of the composer's best known choruses (notably the Hallelujah), and arias of unparalleled virtuosity and lyricism.
"In a performance that was marked by expressivity and drama, Peter Keenan had one last surprise for us at the end. 'Blessing and Honour' was another thrilling ride, and then suddenly, the world stopped for the final 'Amen', soft, slow and incredibly beautiful, swelling just at the end to a final glow of glory, and bringing me to tears; Handel's great gift is that in the hands of those who look for it, Messiah, always has something new to say" - Jane Shuttleworth, Music in Durham
