Our latest display in the Fragile Art Gallery in Kelvingrove is Between Utopias, which explores the work of two artists from the former Soviet Union who responded to a society in flux, Pavel Makov and Nikita Gashunin.
In the early 1990s, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) started to open up its borders to the rest of Europe, leading to its collapse and the emergence of democratic republics. A new generation of artists from the former Soviet Union grappled with this transition. Makov and Gashunin responded to a society forced to reinvent itself at a time of instability, ideological shifts and social changes.
The Fragile Art Gallery is situated on the East side of the 1st Floor, off the French Art Gallery.
