Bilder brings together the work of eight Glasgow based artists who predominantly make paintings. The process of building paintings in the studio is central to their practices. Each work is the product of a thoughtful investigation into form, connected to visual experience and rooted in a tactile and instinctual approach to making. The exhibiting artists share a desire to look for subjects in familiar urban surroundings as well as the understanding that a painting is at once an illusionistic window and a wall-like surface. This dual concern can be seen in early Sienese painting which provides a source of inspiration for the exhibition.
