After a barnstorming previous Glasgow appearance at The Glad Cafe in July, we're back!
This time we will be lining the walls with sweat instead at The Rum Shack, another southside favourite. We are delighted to also announce that joining us are Glasgow based Greek folk 4-piece Con'tylia.
Blue Giant Orkestar
A tune-tastic trans-European gold-plated instrumental hydra of nuclear brass, searing fiddle, pounding tuba, one enormous Russian concert accordion and a percussion section that could flatten your house. Fuelled by Balkan horos, Serbian brass festivals, Turkish pop songs, Bulgarian accordion fireworks and the odd Swedish polska, we play powerful and intricate originals as well as arrangements from many nations and peoples.
CON'TYLIA
The voices of Contylia, accompanied by the strings of a Cretan laouto, guitars and hand drums, aim to explore the wonders of Greek Rebetiko and Trad, ranging from ambient and passionate ballads to Greek island dances, delving into decades of Greek folk, Minor Asian scales and unique rhythms.
Originating from Turkish rebet meaning rebellious, wonderer, blind or misguided, Rebetiko music is the hairy, uncouth, underground sound of ouzo-soaked Greek nights, the Greek-blues equivalent.
Meanwhile, Contylia explore the many and wonderful rhythms of Greek folk, while merging them with our touch of jazz vocals and improvisations.
Contylia is a four member piece, singing solos, duets and quartets, to create polyphonic melodies and vocal interactions, with rhythms and melodies that resemble no others.
Get your tickets quickly, this is going to be a big one!
