Every month in our Books Written By Women Book Group, we meet to chat about a book written by a female author over a glass of wine or a coffee.
This month we'll discuss The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox by Maggie O'Farrell. Set in 1930's Edinburgh, the book follows the Lennox family as they struggle to cope with their unruly daughter Esme. Years later, a young woman named Iris Lockhart receives a letter informing her that she has a great-aunt in a psychiatric unit who is about to be released. Iris has never heard of Esme Lennox before and her grandmother Kitty is reluctant to answer any of her questions. What could Esme have done to warrant a lifetime in an institution? And how is it possible for a person to be so completely erased from a family's history?
If you'd like to join us, we'll meet on Wednesday 18th September at 6pm in our Fiction section on the 1st floor. It's free to come along.
