John Goldie and the High Plains playing music from their acclaimed album "Here and Now" in the intimate surroundings of the upstairs drawing room at The Drake, in Glasgow's Charing Cross district.
Scottish acoustic guitarist John Goldie performs with a string quartet which combines the talents of players from major Scottish Orchestras, jazz and traditional ensembles, This contemporary string quartet is made up of some of the most accomplished players in folk, jazz and classical music.
The High Plains combines the very considerable talents of Seonaid Aitken (Rose Room, Tim Kliphuis Sextet, Scottish Opera) and David Laing (Belle & Sebastian, Andrea Bocelli, Capella String Quartet) on fiddles, Adam Robinson (Sting, Opera North, Annie - West End) on viola and Alice Allen (Scottish Chamber Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony, Brodick Quartet) on cello.
John Goldie is, without doubt, one of the best acoustic guitarists in Scotland right now. Drawing on a rich seam of musical influences, his ability to combine bass, chords, melody and groove together is quite remarkable. As in demand in the studio and workshop space as he is on the touring circuit, John has played with a who's who of talent around the globe. These include George Benson, Martin Taylor, Tommy Emmanuel, Ike Isaacs, Texas, The Faces, and Andrew Lloyd Webber.
