Workshop details
Charcoal is an ancient and versatile drawing material, but it is one which can sometimes feel difficult to handle. In this one-day workshop, artist Tansy Lee Moir will show you some of the different approaches she uses in her charcoal drawings, guiding you to:
Develop your own charcoal mark making vocabulary, using novel tools and techniques to manipulate this expressive medium.
Create lively line drawings with volume and texture.
Explore ways of working with charcoal powder in a reductive, tonal approach.
Be inspired by carefully chosen examples from historical and contemporary artists.
Learn how drawings vary on different surfaces and how to preserve your work.
Working from natural objects, photo references and abstract prompts, this workshop will give you the time and space to discover what you most enjoy about drawing with charcoal.
