Read on to understand quite how extraordinary his achievements to date have been and help us to help him get to Berklee:Dundee student Ciaran Roberts-Osterberg nearly lost his life as a baby due to complications arising from a congenital birth defect. He was diagnosed with autism at a young age and sadly became the victim of bullying in school. To protect him, teachers often sent him to the music room.It was there that a love of music flourished and Ciaran developed into an exceptional multi-instrumentalist and singer. Against all the odds, Ciaran has now, been offered a place at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. Berklee is one of the worlds premier music schools, and alumni include greats like Quincy Jones, Mike Stern, Tommy Smith and John Meyer. Its an unbelievable opportunity. This is an amazing story of a boy fighting the odds. Having been told he would never be good enough, Ciaran has gone on to win critical acclaim, the support of international stars such as Curtis Stigers, and an endorsement from Grammy Award-winning musician Antonio Sanchez. He has headlined at the Dundee Jazz Festival and has made appearances at Langtoun Jazz Festival, Tartan Day at the US Consulate, venues across Scotland and in May 2018 he was invited to play for members of the royal family at Windsor Castle.Ciaran has a further battle to fight though as the cost of studying at Berklee is an eye-watering 55,000 a year. Incredibly, through a combination of scholarships, grants, support from the Dewar Arts Trust and other donations he is well on his way to raising the money. Coverage from STV, BBC Radio Scotland and newspapers across Scotland has helped him raise 39,000 so far. Ciaran wrote to us a couple of months ago and we were so incredibly impressed by him that we very much want to do what we can to help him get to Berklee. Please join us as Ciaran performs at Inchyra alongside seasoned jazz musician Gordon McNeil (an acclaimed jazz saxophonist who has played all over the world, performing with some of the jazz greats). The programme at Inchyra will immerse you in the spirit of New York jazz with tunes that pay homage to jazz legends such as Charlie Parker, Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis and Chick Corea. We are donating all proceeds from the evening towards Ciarans fundraising for Berklee so please join us to help him on his way.
