The Dalgarno Singers, formed in 1974, are based in Thornhill, Dumfriesshire and currently have about 30 singers.
They sing traditional songs, folk tunes, songs from Shows and larger classical choral works. Rehearsals are conducted by Music Director Rory McLatchie and accompanied by Hilary Craig. The 2018-2019 season has seen the choir perform at various locations, including Thornhill, Penpont and Castle Douglas. Typically the choir performs during the Christmas period, then in early Spring with the annual Supper Concert, and finally in May with a large choral work with guest soloists.
Rory McLatchie explains, This Concert is based around American composers. Our audience will be in for a treat with an interesting and varied programme of music with an American theme including some well-known pieces from ‘West Side Story’, Irving Berlin’s ‘America’, and ‘Old American Songs’ by Aaron Copland. The concert will end with ‘Everlasting Melody’ by Rollo A. Dilworth, a highenergy piece in gospel style, celebrating singing and music in general.
