Classical Improvisation: when risk-taking, spontaneous creativity and structured performance meet
Part I An open public workshop. During the workshop, RCS students, together with David Dolan will share with you the practice of classical improvisation challenges. This includes risk-taking, music mind-reading and creating music on the spot while performing it in different stylistic languages – together with partners who don’t have a clue about what’s coming. Members of the audience are invited to participate in the workshop by providing suggestions and requests. We will also share how we work on repertoire works through improvising on the structural, rhythmic and motivic elements of some well-known solo & chamber music works.
Part II Performance of some of the works workshopped during the 1st part.
Part III Q&A, open conversation between the audience and the performers.
