When Dean Owens started out solo, as a Scotsman – a Leither, at that - singing self-penned, unashamedly country-style songs, that was a hard row to plough. Americana had barely been invented; the whole Celtic/country kinship thang was embryonic. After more than 15 years’ unfailingly real-deal songcraft, however, in 2017 Owens became Scotland’s first official showcase artist at Nashville’s AmericanaFest, and tonight, flanked by his superb five-piece band, he launches new album Southern Wind. Celtic heart, country soul.
The newest member of Scottish contemporary folk triumvirate Salt House, singer-songwriter and guitarist Jenny Sturgeon here performs her own finely crafted, often nature-inspired material, with fiddler Charlie McKerron and Jonny Hardie on guitar and vocals.
