The inspiration for my work lies in the remote coastal locations and birds of Scotland, I like to respond directly to my subject by working outside in the landscape using mixed media. These observations then act as a device to access ideas and colours for the development of my fine art textiles.
Textiles for me have always been an important element of my artistic expression. The methods I use in my work stem back to my art school days reflecting my training in printed textiles at Glasgow School of Art.
The work for the exhibition at Caerlaverock Wetland Centre will show a selection of my original drawings in charcoal of coastal birds that are common to the beautiful and rugged wetlands of the Solway Coast. Alongside these will be a collection of fine art textiles that have been developed from my drawings and created using a combination of felted and hand printed fabrics then constructed using hand and machine embroidery.
