Join Dovecot Tapestry Studio at this special event to meet the Dovecot weaving team and discuss their approach to colour and expression in fine art.
Weavers Rudi Richardson, Louise Trotter and Ben Hymers are joined by curator Kate Grenyer in a demonstration and discussion of how the Tapestry Studio’s recent artworks have been commissioned and created. The weavers discuss their lives in tapestry, from apprenticeships and art college to the artists they have collaborated with, and, in a guided tour of the Daughters of Penelope display, they discuss the inspiration they take from the programme of exhibitions at Dovecot that aim to increase understanding and appreciation of art, craft and design.
Support Dovecot with a ticket to this unmissable event exploring what it means to be a tapestry weaver in the modern age, and the skills required to collaborate with artists to create contemporary and site-specific artworks.
The event starts at 2pm with tea and coffee plus a tapestry weaving demonstration in the Dovecot South Gallery. The talk follows at 2.30pm and lasts for approximately 90 minutes including an opportunity to ask questions. The event ends with a tour of the Daughters of Penelope exhibition, when the weavers and curator highlight particular works relating to Dovecot’s practice.
