This exciting show presents music from some of the most innovative contemporary Scottish and Scandinavian folk bands around. Multi-award-winning Danish trio, Dreamers’ Circus, combine classical, folk and jazz influences to create an ambitiously inventive multi-instrumental sound that’s resolutely modern and melodically engrossing. Contemporary Finnish band, Frigg, channel Scandi-pop, Balkan music and bluegrass influences and have garnered acclaim while touring the world performing their exuberant brand of “Nordgrass”. Glasgow-based modern folk outfit, Kinnaris Quintet, take a similarly creative approach, injecting traditional music with an array of styles including Scandinavian and Appalachian. “A rattlingly good listen” is how one reviewer summed up their current album, This Too.
Celtic Runes promises to deliver exactly that, as three sets of performers connected by a Scandi-Celtic fuse-wire give it laldy on fiddle, mandolin, guitar, cittern, accordion, piano, double-bass and Nord knows what else. An unmissable Celtic Connections highlight.
