In 2018, Scotland’s Year of Young People, Edinburgh International Film Festival will significantly expand our programming for young audiences with a dedicated strand, The Young and the Wild, running during the 2018 Film Festival.
The Young and the Wild is packed with inspirational screenings, hands-on events and experiences for young people interested in filmmaking and the moving image industries, including: practical filmmaking workshops for primary and secondary schools; in-person events and masterclasses with world-class filmmakers; careers events and advice; and special networking events for young filmmakers and film enthusiasts.
EIFF’s family screenings, Film Fest Junior, is expanded to offer even more for younger audiences, and a group of young programmers will learn to curate shorts and feature films, and present their favourite new films at the Festival.
To encourage young people across Scotland to try their hand at film, EIFF launch a Scottish Young Filmmaker Competition, with the shortlisted films screening at two special events at EIFF.
Following a Co-Design approach, young people are a driving force in shaping, developing and implementing all events for the Year of Young People 2018.
