The December meeting of the Edinburgh Writers’ Forum will feature GP and celebrated writer Gavin Francis, before our inaugural EWF Christmas Quiz featuring Quizmasters Mary Paulson Ellis and Marie Moser.
Gavin Francis qualified in medicine from Edinburgh in 1999 and spent ten years travelling, visiting all seven continents. He is the author of six non-fiction titles which have won awards including Saltire Non-Fiction Book of the year, BMA Book Awards and SMIT Scottish Book of the year, and have been shortlisted for awards including Costa, Ondaatje, Banff, and Saltire Prizes. His most recent book, Recovery - The Lost Art of Convalescence was published in January this year. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, and a Fellow of the Royal College of General Practitioners. He lives in Edinburgh, where he also works as a GP. Gavin will be talking to us about how he balances the demands of practising as a GP while maintaining a successful writing career.
In the spirit of the season, the second part of the evening will be given over to the first ever EWF Christmas Quiz. Grab a couple of friends – or even complete strangers – and form a team to take on questions on books and writers old and new from our Quizmasters; writer and Forum favourite Mary Paulson Ellis and Marie Moser, owner of the Edinburgh Bookshop who so kindly provide our pop-up book stall every month. There will be prizes for the winning team!
Doors will be open from 6.30pm to give people a chance to eat, drink and mingle
