Enjoy theatre in Gilbert White’s Garden with Chapterhouse Theatre Company’s performance of Emma.
For the first time since 2012, Chapterhouse Theatre Company is thrilled to return to the open-air stage this summer with Laura Turner’s adaptation of Jane Austen’s Emma. Set in the fictional village of Highbury, young Emma Woodhouse – described in the novel’s first sentence as ‘handsome, clever, and rich’ – develops a penchant for matchmaking after she successfully pairs off two of her friends. But it soon transpires that amidst her plotting, Emma finds herself stuck in the middle of a tangled web…
“It’s been a pleasure to be involved with Chapterhouse’s productions over the last decade and this year is no exception. I’m delighted to see some of my favourite classic stories coming to life on stage, and I hope audiences young and old alike find plenty to enjoy in 2020’s array of shows.”
Laura Turner, Scriptwriter
“We are thrilled to still be joining our audiences at beautiful venues for this, our twenty-first year as a company. We’ve brought back some of our most popular, best-loved shows from over the last two decades, including Emma, which was last toured eight years ago. I am excited to be working with our creative teams of actors and directors, as well as with Laura Turner, who beautifully adapts the shows for the stage.”Richard Main, Artistic Director and ProducerGates open at 6.00pm.
