November 11th2018 marks the centenary day of the Great War's end and this highly acclaimedproduction comes to Edinburgh for probably the last time. It has filled thelargest theatres and concert halls in Scotland over the last six years.
With a cast of 26performers, “Far, Far from Ypres” is a two-hour multimedia performancepresenting World War One songs from the trenches, marching and recruitmentsongs, music hall songs, contemporary songs and poetry.
Devised, writtenand produced by Ian McCalman, “Far, Far from Ypres” is narrated by BBC RadioScotland presenter Iain Anderson and has attracted some of the leading lightsin the Scottish folk scene and beyond, including Barbara Dickson, SiobhanMiller, Dick Gaughan, Ian McCalman, Iain Anderson, Professor Gary West, StephenQuigg, Ian Bruce, Sangsters and other well- known faces from the Scottish folkscene. There is further illustration of the story via large screen projectionthroughout the performance.
“Far, Far fromYpres” is the story of the Scottish war effort during World War One, itsexcitement, hope, suffering, endurance, humour, fear and disillusionmentin the face of horror told through the eyes of fictional, prototypical soldier,Jimmy MacDonald.
